  • At 16 years old you are eligible for an ATM card* and/or a KCCU checking account*

Youth Share Certificates** offer you a way to earn greater interest on your savings. With a minimum deposit of $100.00 you can lock into a competitive interest rate on a 1, 2, or 3 year term and receive monthly dividends. Additional deposits in $50.00 increments can be added to the Certificate during the first six months of the term.

*A parent or guardian's signature required.

**A penalty is assessed for early withdrawal of a Youth Share Certificate.

Definitions

Compounding
The process by which the value of your investment increases. This is based not only on the money that you originally invested, but also on gains that may have been made in prior years. Or simply put: earning interest on interest.
Time Horizon
The period of time that a person is willing to keep his or her money invested.
Cash Flow
The measurement of the money you receive and the money you spend.
Debt
The entire amount of money a person owes to lenders.
Interest
Payment for the use of money
Taxes
Fees placed on income, property or goods to support government programs.

You can become a Kent Credit Achiever member if you are age 13 through 17 and open a savings account at Kent County Credit Union with a $5.00 deposit. Go ahead and apply online! All members under the age of 18 require a parent or guardian's signature.
